08:04 pm - Post Christmas de-briefing
Sounds vaguely rude. ISn't.
Had a thoroughly lovely Christmas with Jake's parents this year. Lots of stories, tasty food, good company, a few glasses of wine and a tonne of pudding. The kids have had an awesome time too, playing with their new Duplo, fuzzy felt and Esme's robot. The robot is currently every one's favourite toy - Eddy and Maddy popped over today and they were spellbound by his plastic charms too.

Orlaith was amazingly cute today. Sat on the floor in the lounge room building something out of Duplo. I could hear her muttering to herself and eventually she started talking a bit louder: "This is Donny, Donny is a dinosaur. Oh what a lovely fellow he is" mutter mutter "and then Donny fell, SPLASH, into the stream and was carried away and his friends never saw him again. Oh DEAR!" And then shortly after this she started humming loudly to herself, and the tune eventually became a very noisy rendition of Rudolf the REd Nosed Reindeer. She was completely oblivous to every one else in the room, totally focussed on her game with the Duplo. Really intense little iamgination that one has.

Esme got a smooch from Eddy this evening, the little smoothy. I asked them to give each other hugs to say bye bye and she ran at him with ehr arms out, and he leant in and made big smoochy smacking lips at her and gave her a big kiss. Veery sweet.

Tomorrow we're heading up to Cov to go see Jake's grandma and his other rellies up there. Jake's grandfather passed away in November so this is the first Christmas Gladys has had without him in 63 years. So we're goign up to go and see how she is and take her her present and so forth. THen back to London for work on Tuesday  for Jake. Hopefully it might snow again this week!

Off to go check on the girls now. Esme was asleep a little while ago but she may have woken up.

Happy Crazy Materialistic Present Swapping Bonanza Day, every one. Somehow I don't think that name will catch on, it's much too long to fit on a greetings card. Although we could charge more for the cards as they would take up far more card...

Christmas has bee nfun this year, both the girls have gotten into it a bit more, even Esme. By the end of the day she was ripping paper with the best of them. She got a ride-on tractor toy and a robot which she's played with happily all day. Orlaith got a doll's house from Jake's parents and dupplo and books from my parents, both of which she has loved. She got an awesome pirate raincoat, wellies and umbrella from Alex and Scott. Very cool!

I even took the girls to church this year, last night, with their grandma. We went to the children's carol service at the local Baptist church. It was a bit happy clappy for my tastes, but sweet and Orlaith enjoyed it. We may repeat the experience again at some point. We shall see. It was interesting for me, as someone who used to be EXTREMELY religious, I got almost nothing out of it. I enjoyed singing, but then I always enjoy singing. Apart from that, I just really didn't feel a thing. I used to genuinely enjoy going to Mass and went every week. I used to help organise the local Antioch group (I know, I know, I = dorkface mcgeekypants) but I just get nothing from it any more.

RIght, gotta go extract honey covered off spring from mischievous expolits.

09:26 am - New cute stuff
Esme's on a roll with the cute this week.
She just made the connection between my chest and the word 'booby' or 'booba'. So she's currently sitting on my lap, poking me in the tit, giggling and chanting "boobo, boooooby, booooba".

And it is SNOWING outside. There's scratty little bits of snow all over the ground getting trampled into horrible dirty slush. That's London in Winter for you. It's meant to snow hard today so maybe by the end of the day the snow will be all pretty again. Orlaith and Esme are now hanging out by the window sill with their heads sticking out between the lace curtains. Orlaith is so excited that I think she may be talking in tongues.

06:24 pm - Mo-cember
Another new word for Esme this week is No. She's been trying to say it for ages, shaking her head enthusiastically and insistently, but had not yet matched a sound to the action. But now the head shake is accompanied by a loud and outraged shout/squeal of "MO". I love it. Do you want to go to bed? "MO" Are you going to give Daddy a ba? (Kiss) "MO!!!" Shall I have a cup of tea? "MO" I can't help it, I've started saying it too. And she knows it makes me giggle so she's been saying it even more. THis was taken a few minutes ago. She's saying "teeeee" which is how she says cheese. She is every bit as cheeky as that face makes her look, and possibly even more so. Currently she's standing on top of one of my laundry baskets and dancing to the Mr Benn theme music, flapping her arms up and down and bopping her bum. CHEEKY. Orlaith and I had a pleasant afternoon. I bought her a copy of George's Marvellous Medicine the other day, along with a couple of other Roald Dahl books missing from our collection. So we spent the afternoon reading about horrid old Grandma and George's attempts to teach her a lesson. I tried to stress how naughty George was being and that you shouldn't really do the things he does in the book, and she was quite horrified by some of the goings on, so hopefully she won't try to make her own pot of marvellous medicine. But if you hear of an almost four year old poisoning her younger sister and her parents in South London, you'll know what happened.

12:57 pm - Why there are no moose in Britain
Orlaith informs me that the squirels in the park eat moose for lunch. A whole moose each every day. This is the real reason why there are no moose in Britain. Watch out, Canada, the little fuckers will be onto you real soon now.

More cute stuff Esme has learned this week: when we are late for school, Orlaith likes to stand in front of the door with her eyes shut, waiting for her teacher to come and let her in. Then she shouts boo! and her teacher pretends to quake in fear and surprise. As of yesterday this is now Esme's favourite trick too. She sits in the pram and yells "boo!" really loudly until the teacher acknowledges how terrifying and surprising she is. Awesome.

She said "hallo" very clearly this morning and tried to say "spider" and "hey diddle diddle" when we were reading her nursery rhyme book. Oh and she takes great delight in shouting "TEA!" whenever I boil the kettle. And she tried to say "soup" at dinner time last night. It came out as "doop" but she tried, bless her. That three volume novel is not far off...

In other news it's fucking cold and the snow has gone away. I demand snow, it shouldn't be this cold without something to amuse me and make me less bitter about the shivering and my chapped knuckles. I want to be properly snowed in, with appropriate amounts of supplies obviously. Thenw e can curl up in front of the heaters and read Roald Dahl and drink hot chocolate and cups of tea until they come and dig us out. It's not going to happen, but a girl can dream. And so can I.

06:07 pm - Snoooow
As always, I am very excited by snow, even though it didn't settle. I love the way it looks blowing about in the wind. Pretty.

But holy mother of fuck it was cold walking home from pre-school today.

Today was Orlaith's Christmas Concert - or as she called it 'the Christmas concept'. Hee.

She was FATHER CHRISTMAS complete with beard and moustasche. Which she wore over her nose.
